To whom does the new application process apply?

The procedure applies to all students who wish to write their Master's thesis under the initial supervision of staff members of the VET research groups Frommberger and Lange and who wish to register this Master's thesis with the Examinations Office after November 15, 2021.

Does the procedure also apply to bachelor theses?

No. The procedure is being tested exclusively for master's theses. If you would like to write your Bachelor's thesis in cooperation with the Department of Vocational and Business Education, you can inform yourself hier.

In which periods can I apply?

There are a total of four application periods:

• 01.08. to 31.10. (winter semester 1)
• 01.11. to 31.01. (winter semester 2)
• 01.02. to 30.04. (summer semester 1)
• 01.05. to 31.07. (summer semester 2)

I would like to apply for my master's thesis at a certain time. When do I have to apply?

If you want to register your work between 15/11 and 14/02, you have to apply in the period from 01/08 to 31/10 (winter semester 1).

If you want to register your work between 15.02. and 14.05., you have to apply in the period from 01.11. to 31.01. (winter semester 2).

If you want to register your work between 15.05. and 14.08., you have to apply in the period from 01.02. to 30.04. (summer semester 1).

If you want to register your work between 15.08. and 14.11., you have to apply in the period from 01.05. to 31.07. (summer semester 2).

I am writing my Master's thesis in first supervision of my professional field and need a second supervision from VET - What should I do?

The application procedure is not relevant for second supervisions. In order to obtain a second supervision, you can contact the VET staff members of all working groups individually.

I would like to write my master's thesis in the AG Bals (under the current supervision of Vertr.-Prof. Dr. Janika Grunau). How should I proceed?

In this case, you can make individual contact with the staff of the working group and ask for initial support.

I am interested in the current topic calls. Do I also have to apply for this via the central procedure?

No. The application process is only relevant for students with individual subjects.

I already know that I would like to write my master's thesis at a later date. Can I apply or be pre-registered already now?

This is not possible. Registration is always possible only in the current application period.

Why is the registration period for master's theses in the respective periods chosen so broadly?

After you have received an acceptance letter and have been assigned an initial supervisor, you have three months to register your master's thesis. This is to maintain the flexibility of the student and the overall individual supervision process.

I am still waiting to register a service from M I, M II or M III and I am not sure if it will be confirmed to me during the registration period. What should I do?

You should still apply for initial support. In the first step of the application form, you have the opportunity to inform us about this problem and provide more detailed information.

What happens if the admission requirements are not fulfilled during the expected period (e.g. performance not passed or performance not yet registered)?

In this case, your registration for the master thesis will be postponed. You will then clarify the further procedure with your first supervisor.

How is the privacy of the registration form ensured?

The registration form is hosted on servers of the University of Osnabrück at Westerberg. The installed Limesurvey instance is DSGVO compliant. Apart from the personal details in the registration form, no personal data is stored. All data will be deleted within six months after completion of the entire support process.

How must the master thesis be structured or methodically designed?

There are no restrictions in this regard. We are open to all research projects!

I would like to write my master's thesis with a certain person. May I also contact the person directly and ask for initial supervision?

This procedure is not provided. All students (with the exception of topic announcements) must register centrally via the application procedure. In the course of the application, however, there is the possibility to indicate a first or second wish of the first supervision.

I would like to write my master's thesis with a certain person, but he or she is not one of the supervising persons in my period. What now?

In this case, it may be that the person is a project employee and is not available for supervision during the current registration period.

I have already received a commitment for initial support before the application was necessary. Do I still have to apply now?

No. The commitments are still valid.

I have received a commitment. How do I get a secondary supervisor?

Who takes over the second supervision of your work, you clarify individually with your first supervision. As a rule, this is done by other VET employees.

I have received a rejection letter. What do I do now?

If (!!!) you receive a rejection, you can get feedback on the reason for your rejection and reapply for the next period.
